The Winter Preview shows up about a week late. I had an ambitious publishing schedule and it looks like I am going to keep to precious little of it. This Preview is fairly strong this year. Past Winter releases have struck me as a bit weak. Lots to look forward to here. I am super excited for Mr. Crais's latest, but also have strong interest in Ms. Armstrong's and Mr. Huston's books. If you have any Crime Fiction you are excited for do not hesitate to leave a comment. The Hungry Detective lays awake at night in utter terror of missing something good.
THE LOCK ARTIST - Steve Hamilton - January 5
If I had to choose a life of crime it would be as as a safe cracker. A highly skilled professional. No emotional entanglements. Steve McQueen cool. I'm guessing THE LOCK ARTIST will be a little more messy.
THE FIRST RULE - Robert Crais - January 12
The 2nd official Joe Pike book. I just called THE WATCHMAN the 10th best book of the decade so there is little doubt that is one of the big novels of this season for The Hungry Detective.
SLEEPLESS - Charlie Huston - January 12
After last year's THE MYSTIC ARTS OF ERASING ALL SIGNS OF DEATH I am a Charlie Huston convert. This and CAUGHT STEALING are early readers for 2009.
NO MERCY - Lori Armstrong - January 12
Fifth book from Ms. Armstrong, but the first in a brand series. She has been an author that lingers in the background of my brain of authors I would like to read if only I had the time. Even if I don't get to, I'll encourage you to give her a whirl.
LET IT RIDE - John McFetridge - February 16
Toronto. Who knew.
OCCUPIED CITY - David Peace - February 2
The second in his Tokyo trilogy. Mr Peace details Japanese crime in the aftermath of WWII and American occupation.
DO THEY KNOW I'M RUNNING - David Corbett - March 2
Mr. Corbett continues to explore the dark passages of the US and Central America relationship. I'm guessing the book is not big on laughs.
...and the best of rest. The Mina and the Mosley are being released just after the beginning of Spring, so they may show up in the main list then. I just wanted to give everyone an early reminder. Good reading everyone.
SILENCER - James W. Hall; IRON RIVER - T. Jefferson Parker; THE MAN FROM BEIJING - Henning Mankell; THE INFORMATION OFFICER - Mark Mills; STILL MIDNIGHT - Denise Mina; PRINT THE LEGEND - Craig McDonald; KNOWN TO EVIL - Walter Mosely; THE MIDNIGHT HOUSE - Alex Berenson; EXPIRATION DATE - Duane Swierczyski
