The past couple years I have been in attendance to deliver the news in a timely manner, this year not so much. The Hungry Detective's 2010 Bouchercon Award Prediction Spectacular

The Hungry Detective has made the decision to group all of his predictions into one uber-prediction post for the multiple award ceremonies that will be occurring during the Bouchercon weekend. I'm not getting too adventurous with my picks. After doing this for a couple years I have learned that when I get creative with my 'picks' I only look like an idiot. Mystery Readers International recently announced their 2010 nominations. And like the Barry's and Anthony's the winners will be announced at this year's B'Con in Shake Town. Barry Awards Best Novel: Trigger City - Sean Chercover The Draining Lake - Arnaldur Indridason Envy the Night - Michael Koryta Red Knife - William Kent Krueger The Cruelest Month - Louise Penny The Dawn Patrol - Don Winslow Ms. Penny is my safe bet here. My heart wants me to go with Mr. Chercover, but I think THE CRUELEST MONTH is the winner. Best First Novel: The Kind One - Tom Epperson Stalking Susan - Julie Kramer City of the Sun - David Levien Chil d 44 - Tom Rob Smith A Carrion Death - Michael Stanley Sweeping Up Glass - Carolyn D. Macavity Award Nominations

A new set of nominations means I can shake off my terrible showing at last week's Edgar Awards and make a whole new bunch of predictions that will probably not come to fruition. I am now slightly concerned that my picks my set in motion forces that cause these books not to win. What a heavy, heavy burden I carry. Anyway, I'm posting the nominees here although publicized elsewhere already. I'll make picks when we are closer to the I ndy B'Con where these awards will be announced.
